A Tribute to Geoffrey Bawa’s Architectural Masterpiece
The Bawa Room
The Bawa Room at The Blue Water Hotel stands as a tribute to the iconic Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. This room, one of his original creations, is the last remaining space in the hotel that truly reflects his architectural genius. Despite a refurbishment in 2015, where most rooms were expanded and redesigned, Room 221 has retained its authentic charm, preserving Bawa’s vision and essence.
Step inside, and you are immediately greeted by an ambiance that resonates with Bawa’s artistic style. From the wood carvings, statues, and plants, each detail reflects the elements that Bawa cherished in his homes, whether in the city or the countryside. The unique design positions the bed towards the expansive French windows, offering stunning views of the Indian Ocean, the surrounding coconut grove, and the hotel’s central pool area layout that speaks to Bawa’s deep appreciation for the natural world.
